The series co-maker, Jacky St. James, referenced that she was discontent with the manner in which BDSM was depicted in Fifty Shades of Gray, which she considers "made an oppressive relationship look like a genuine understanding of the BDSM way of life". She would have liked to make a more nuanced perspective on the BDSM world with the series. In a meeting with GQ, she depicted the series as, "blemished individuals in BDSM relationships. "The lead entertainer Ashlynn Yennie likewise repeated the maker's feeling saying, "Fifty Shades of Gray was not a right depiction of the kind of sex that individuals practice. It caused it to appear as though it was for individuals that were screwed up or dull and it's not at all. "She trusted that the show "can break that discriminatory constraint of deception and show the world what it really intends to trust, convey, lastly go ahead and talk regarding what you need and don't need physically in a consensual and sound manner."
